Since I have started blogging, I have learned a wealth of new information. Most of it is blogging related that you have to learn to succeed, and some is just random information and habits that I have picked up along the way. For example, I have learned to just deal with the fact that my neighbors are probably judging me as I try to get that “perfect” picture on my patio because the light is just better out there ( sorry not sorry ). Another random habit that I have picked up is the feeling of wanting to brand EVERYTHING! For instance, wouldn’t a cute picture of a coffee mug while I work be 10 times better if the coffee mug had a “The Decor Du Jour” label on it? Clearly!
Long story short, I have been desperately wanting a branded notebook to carry around with me to take notes in for the blog. I already have what feels like hundreds of notebooks because I am an avid note taker, but I wanted personalized notebook dedicated to just blogging. I have found plenty of options in online stores and office supply stores, all cute but none that I would consider “just right”.
My solution? Make one myself! I decided that I wanted to just make my very own wooden notebook, which meant that it would be unique, branded, and much cheaper. Sounds like a win, win, win to me!
Here is what I needed to get started on my wooden notebook:
- Thin Sheet of Plywood
- 7/32″ Drill Bit
- Sand Paper
- Wood Burning Pen
- Stencils ( to help stay in the lines )
- Wood Stain
- 3-Hole Punch
- Binder Rings
Take your 8.5″ x 11″ paper and lay in on top of your plywood. Be sure to leave about a 1/4″ overlay. You will want your wooden covers to be just a tad larger than the paper you fill them with. Mark your plywood.
Take a ruler or straight edge and draw a straight line where your marks are for your saw.
Lay your stencils on the wood and trace them.
Cut your wood along the lines you have drawn.
Sand down your newly cut wood.
3-hole punch your paper and then lay a sheet on your cut wood covers. Trace the holes from your paper onto your wood.
Using your drill and 7/32″ drill bit, drill holes over your trace marks so that your wood is 3-hole punched as well.
Burn your stenciled letters into the wood using your wood burning pen.
Stain the fronts and backs of both of your wood covers and let dry.
Place your paper between the covers and run a binder ring through each of the holes.
All done! You now have a perfectly personalized wooden notebook! Now get on with the note taking.
